Viewing Instructions for Screen-Capture Videos
Ben Edelman

My screen-capture videos ordinarily load in dedicated web browser windows. For users with certain operating systems and/or browsers, these dedicated windows may fail to display the videos properly. Other users may prefer to play my screen-capture videos in a full copy of Windows Media Player, rather than within a web browser. The dedicated player windows therefore include links labeled "standalone player" which load the requested video in an ordinary copy of Windows Media Player.

Some further guidance for those choosing to view videos within Windows Media Player --

The Full Screen button in Windows Media Player1) View videos in Windows Media Player (not in the "within Internet Explorer" sidebar). If prompted to view files within Internet Explorer, decline.

2) View videos at high resolution. Either view videos at 100% zoom (on the View menu, choose Video Size, then 100%; or press Alt-1), or view videos in Full Screen mode (on the View Menu, choose Full Screen; or press Alt-Enter; or press the Full Screen icon, circled at right)

Additional recommendation for Windows Media Player version 10 users only:

3) On the View menu, go to the Video Size submenu, and select options as follows: Choose 100% zoom, check Fit Player to Video on Start, but uncheck Fit Video to Player on Resize.

These configuration choices are necessary because viewing within Internet Explorer limits video display resolution, making videos' on-screen text unreadable.

Unfortunately, WindowsMedia screen-capture videos are not currently viewable on Mac or Linux platforms.
